William J. Crowell, Jr. - 1941 to 2024
William J. Crowell, Jr. was a native Nevadan, born in Tonopah, who devoted his professional life to the practice of law in his home state. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in philosophy from Stanford University in 1964 and a Juris Doctor from the University of Denver College of Law in 1966, where he served as Associate Editor of the Denver Law Journal and was a member of the Order of St. Ives and Phi Alpha Delta. He was admitted to the State Bar of Nevada in 1967.
After his admission to the bar, Mr. Crowell joined his father in private practice while also serving as Deputy District Attorney in Douglas County, Nevada, until 1978, when his brother Robert joined the firm. He became one of the most senior members of the Carson City firm of Crowell, Susich, Owen & Tackes, Ltd. - a practice rooted in the Carson City legal community since 1950 - and later served as Of Counsel to Kaempfer Crowell. Over the course of his career his practice spanned civil litigation; corporate, business, and contract law; real property, mining and water law; estate planning and probate law; administrative and gaming law; personal injury law; and family law.
Mr. Crowell was a member of the State Bar of Nevada, the Washoe County Bar Association, and the First Judicial District Bar Association, and he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct. He is remembered for his long and dedicated service to Nevada's legal profession.
